This Kitchen was designed and constructed for a beautiful 17th century house called Dove Cottage. The owner asked if it would be possible to somehow incorporate into the kitchen design a carved dove to represent the house name. This was a great opportunity to provide a fascinating focal point above the Aga in the centre of the kitchen. When the client visited my showroom, she was particularly impressed with a hanging rack above my Aga and a shelf suspended on old chains. So I collated both concepts together, and designed a hanging rack supporting a sculpture of a dove.
Hanging racks are both useful and aesthetically pleasing. Great for hanging Aga toasters, colanders, spatulas, pans and even drying clothes. They're often used over islands, they add another dimension to the kitchen and make use of unused space. This particular hanging rack was suspended on heavy duty chain, which was aged over a period of time to create an authentic medieval effect. The oak rack was jointed traditionally with dovetail joints at the back and ancient tusk tenons for maximum strength at the front.
