Period houses are without question the most difficult and infuriating spaces to both design, make and fit bespoke kitchen furniture. Out of square rooms, bent walls, low ceilings and sloping floors all add to the to the complex problems, but also the intrigue and design possibilities. Architectural peculiarities, such as low ceilings, windows and doors in difficult places, and original period features all offer an opportunity for a creative one-off design that is unique to the particular period house.
Off the peg kitchen furniture never works in a period space, it looks too manufactured, and modular cabinets are always a poor compromise for an individual home of character. Bespoke handmade kitchen furniture is the only solution, and in particular free standing cabinets, rather than the dated fitted look.
Carved Wood Design specialize in designing kitchens for period property and difficult spaces, and everything is made by hand on a 16th century farm in the Peak District National Park.
